What is Health?

By definition, health is simply the "absense of disease". To me however, there is so much more to health. There is physical health ( which pertains to the body), emotional health ( how a person feels) and mental health (which pertains to the mind and what this class may be all about). While they all fall under the general category of "health", someone could be perfectly healthy physically but not be doing so well emotionally. One may have perfect mental health, but have a deteriorating physical health. I think that Dr.Ratson had it right when he said that there are "four essential qualities we must possess in order to enjoy life-time good health: 1) Purpose (emotional/mental) 2) Love (emotional/mental) 3) Responsibility (physical) and 4) Freedom (emotional)". With that said, I feel like it is very important (to me) that my primary care physician is able and WILLING to treat me both physically AND mentally/emotionally.

Personally, I am very lucky to receive this kind of care from my primary care physician. He doesn't treat me as a number. Instead, he treats me with the same respect he would if he were treating his children. For this, I look at him more as a friend instead of doctor. For me, this allows me to be more honest with him. It really feels like he cares about what I say and the problems I have. He really does want me to be in the best overall health possible.
